While I aspire to become a clockmaker, I am also acquainted with book restoration. It can be a delicate process (and quite surgical!) that involves taking the book apart, sewing its sections together, and even using a bandage.

Restoring the old spine or creating a new one is mostly possible. But since this is a personal copy (I didn’t use the duct tape, I promise…it was already there when I bought the book!), I opted to keep the old spine, adding only a bit of polish to preserve its character and honour the decades it has seen since the mid 40s
